Getting Started

How do I install Pannely?

Download Pannely from the home page. On macOS, open the .dmg file and drag Pannely to your Applications folder. On Windows, run the .exe installer. Pannely requires macOS 12+ or Windows 10+.

How do I create an account?

Click Sign In on the website or in the app. You can sign in with Google (one click) or with a magic link sent to your email — no password required. Your account unlocks subscription sync across devices.

How do I add my first panel?

Click the + button in the toolbar or press ⌘N (macOS) / Ctrl+N (Windows). Choose a panel type — Chat, Editor, or Notes — then select an AI provider and model from the dropdown.

What is a panel?

A panel is an independent workspace unit inside Pannely. Each panel can be a Chat conversation with any AI model, a Markdown editor, or a Notes pad. You can have up to 9 panels in a 3×3 grid and freely resize or rearrange them.

API Keys

Where do I enter my API keys?

Open Pannely → Settings (gear icon) → API Keys. Paste your key for each provider you want to use. Keys are saved immediately and stored in your OS keychain — they never leave your device.

Are my API keys safe?

Yes. API keys are stored exclusively in your operating system's encrypted keychain (macOS Keychain / Windows Credential Manager). They are never transmitted to Pannely's servers. Only the AI provider receives your key — directly from your device.

Can I use Ollama (local models)?

Yes. Install Ollama on your machine, pull any model (e.g. ollama pull llama3), then in Pannely select Ollama as the provider. No API key is needed. Local models run entirely on your hardware with no internet connection required.

I get 'Invalid API key' errors. What should I do?

Double-check that you copied the full key (no trailing spaces). Ensure the key is active in the provider's dashboard and has sufficient quota. Some providers require billing to be set up even on free tiers.

Features

What is Broadcast Mode?

Broadcast Mode sends the same prompt to all visible panels simultaneously. Click the broadcast icon in the toolbar, type your message, and every active chat panel replies at the same time. Perfect for comparing responses across GPT-4, Claude, and Gemini.

How does Fullscreen Toggle work?

Click the expand icon on any panel (or double-click its title bar) to make it fill the entire app window. Click again or press Escape to return to the grid layout. Your conversation is not interrupted.

What is 'Send to…'?

The 'Send to…' feature (Pro) lets you pipe the output of one panel directly into another as input. For example, send a Claude-generated outline to a GPT-4 panel for expansion, or send chat output into the Editor panel.

What AI providers are supported?

OpenAI (GPT-4o, GPT-4, o1), Anthropic (Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Claude 3 Opus), Google (Gemini 1.5 Pro, Flash), Moonshot, DeepSeek, Groq, SiliconFlow, and Ollama (local). New providers are added regularly.

Can I export my conversations?

Yes (Pro feature). Open a chat panel → ⋯ menu → Export. Choose Markdown, PDF, or Word (.docx). The export includes all messages, timestamps, and model info.

Subscription & Billing

What's included in the Free plan?

The Free plan includes AI Chat + Notes panels, support for OpenAI / Claude / Gemini / Ollama, up to 50 messages per chat (unlimited for Ollama), 1 custom template, voice input, image upload, and up to 20 panels.

What does Pro add?

Pro unlocks: all panel types, all 8+ AI providers, unlimited message history, unlimited templates, 'Send to…' data transfer, Broadcast Prompt, Editor AI assist, clipboard auto-capture, web search integration, and export to Markdown/PDF/Word.

How do I upgrade to Pro?

Go to Pricing on the website or click Upgrade in the app. Choose monthly ($8/mo) or annual ($68/yr, saves 30%). You'll be redirected to Stripe's secure checkout. After payment, Pro activates immediately on all your devices.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Visit pannely.com/account → Your Plan → Manage Subscription. This opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period.

What is the 14-day refund policy?

If you're not satisfied within 14 days of your first purchase, email hello@pannely.com with your order details and we'll issue a full refund — no questions asked. Refunds are not available for renewal charges.

My Pro isn't activating after payment. What do I do?

First, try signing out and back in to the app. If Pro still doesn't appear, wait a minute for the webhook to process and restart the app. If the issue persists after 5 minutes, email hello@pannely.com with your order ID.

Desktop Login

How does logging in from the desktop app work?

Click Sign In inside Pannely. A browser window opens at pannely.com. Sign in there (Google or magic link). Once authenticated, the website passes a token back to the app via the pannely:// deep link. The browser window can then be closed.

I signed in but the app didn't receive my session. What should I do?

Make sure your browser isn't blocking the pannely:// link. On macOS, check System Settings → Default Apps. On Windows, check Default Apps settings. Try signing in again. If the issue persists, restart Pannely after signing in on the website.

I'm stuck on the desktop-callback page.

This page only appears briefly while the token is transferred. If it stays for more than 10 seconds, try clicking 'Back to sign in' and repeating the flow. Ensure you're signed into the website before the desktop polls for the token.

Troubleshooting

Pannely won't open on macOS.

If you see 'app can't be opened because it's from an unidentified developer', right-click the app icon → Open → Open. You only need to do this once. This is a macOS Gatekeeper prompt for apps not distributed via the App Store.

Panels are loading slowly.

Response speed depends on the AI provider's API latency, not Pannely itself. Try switching to a faster model (e.g. GPT-4o-mini or Gemini Flash) or a different provider. If using Ollama, check that your local model is fully loaded.

My chat history disappeared.

Chat history is stored locally on your device. If you reinstalled Pannely or moved to a new machine, history won't carry over unless you exported it. Export via ⋯ → Export before reinstalling.

The app uses too much memory.

Each open panel maintains a conversation context in memory. Close unused panels or clear conversation history in long chats. Ollama models also load into RAM — quit Ollama if not in use.
